Welcome! I’m Elena Gomez and I’m the founder of HomeTold with Elena.

HomeTold with Elena is home to hyperlocal stories about the North County San Diego experience — focused on the people who make this community, home. With a decade of experience as a journalist, I’m combining my passion for storytelling and a love for discovering new places to create HomeTold — a story hub for all things North County San Diego.
HomeTold with Elena was created when I moved back to North County San Diego after spending two years traveling Europe and California with my husband. In my early 30s, coming off a travel high and feeling uninspired in my hometown — it became clear that I needed to rediscover my home with the same sense of wonder that I had used wandering the world.
Following similar techniques that I would use while exploring a new city, I began talking with locals, getting lost in backyard hikes and visiting local mom-and-pop eateries. I quickly learned that every city has a story to tell and its these stories that create experiences, adventures and a spirit of community that we can all enjoy, no matter where you live.
At HomeTold with Elena, I’m here to be your guiding light, your North star. A dependable resource to follow when you’re feeling lost, uninspired, in a non-stop daydream about future trips (believe me, I get it!) — and help you find ways to live in the moment, while discovering everyday adventures in North County San Diego and beyond.
Together, we’ll uncover the hidden gems of San Diego County and cities outside of the region. I’ll share stories about the people behind your favorite local breweries or community shops. HomeTold will be a place to help you plan your next adventure or a destination to rediscover the beauty in your own hometown. People, and their unique stories, will always be my focus here — which means I want to hear from you and learn where you think I should travel next. Send me an email with your ideas at hometoldwithelena@gmail.com. Happy exploring!
